Market Brief
Market Read
  • The current market is in a BEAR_TREND, highlighted by a strong defensive posture due to the SLOWDOWN phase of the economic cycle, with a high confidence of 0.72.
  • Despite a bearish inclination, a BULLISH divergence and a low TRIN of 0.51 suggest potential near-term rebounds.
  • DII flows robustly absorb selling from FIIs, supporting stability.
Risk Posture
  • Adopt a cautious but opportunistic risk posture as fundamental and defensive trends dominate, holding weights of 2.5 and 3.0, respectively.
  • The India VIX rising to 12.3% and declining breadth imply heightened volatility and underlying market weakness.
Where to Focus
  • Prioritize defensive and growth sectors like FMCG, Pharma, and IT, given their alignment with the economic slowdown.
  • The Pharma & Healthcare and Capital Markets sectors exhibit strong relative strength with RS 1M up 2.5% and 4.0%, respectively, and should be closely monitored.
What Would Change
  • A shift in FII sentiment, with reduced net selling, could alleviate bearish pressures.
  • Increased breadth strength or a reversal in the mean-revert indicator can signal trend stabilization.
  • Monitor for significant policy changes that may lower costs and support growth, potentially transitioning the cycle phase.

Market Rotation Context

  • The dominant theme is the outperformance of Pharma & Healthcare, leading sector rotation rankings with a Rotation Score of 5.8 and 3M relative strength of +8.8%.
  • The Capital Markets sector follows with a score of 5.6, although its breadth is weak with only 33% of stocks above their 50-day moving average.
  • Despite a broadly neutral macro backdrop, indicated by India VIX at 12.3 and recent FII selling pressure of ₹-4,324 Cr mitigated by DII buying of ₹+13,841 Cr, tactical caution prevails in certain sectors.

Sector Analysis Narratives

Pharma & Healthcare
HIGH Conviction
📈 Rotation Dynamics
  • Nifty Pharma leads the rotation with a Rotation Score of 5.8 and exhibits strong upward momentum with a 3-month gain of +8.8% and RS one-month of +2.5% against the Nifty 500.
  • Breadth is neutral with 50% of stocks above their 50DMA.
🏭 Fundamental Drivers
  • The sector faces a modest macroeconomic headwind as India VIX rises by 4.0%, affecting the sector's macro tailwinds by -0.37.
  • Pharma companies in India are increasingly focusing on R&D and domestic demand growth.
⚠️ Risk & Tactical View
  • Risk is moderated by setting initial stop-losses at about 3% below sector leaders' recent lows, observing breakouts closely, and adjusting entry positions post-earnings visibility.
  • Market participants should cautiously enter positions near existing support levels.
  • Pharma is still behaving like a defensive-growth pocket rather than a broad beta leader.
  • The sector is up -0.9% over 1M with RS +2.5% vs Nifty 500, but only 50% of names above 50DMA, so the trade remains selective.
  • Prefer earnings-visible leaders and avoid paying up for weak follow-through.

MEDIUM Conviction
📈 Rotation Dynamics
  • Nifty Capital Mkt ranks second with a Rotation Score of 5.6, benefiting from a +0.6% gain over the past month and strong RS vs Nifty 500 of +4.0% for the same period, though 5-day performance is down -0.9%.

🏭 Fundamental Drivers
  • FIIs have been net sellers; however, the sector has shown resilience due to robust institutional framework changes and historically low interest rates supporting valuations.
⚠️ Risk & Tactical View
  • Key watchpoints include internal weak breadth and potential volatility upticks.
  • Positions should be closely managed, with disciplined buy ranges as close to support as possible, focusing on higher RS stocks.
  • Capital Markets is a secondary rotation lane at the moment: +0.6% over 1M and RS +4.0% show constructive but not decisive leadership, while 33% of names above 50DMA keeps conviction below the primary leaders.
  • Use this group tactically and demand price confirmation before adding exposure.

Short-Term Technical View
Broader market and selected index view from PostgreSQL index EOD history. Latest data: 2026-09-11.

Broader Market Technical Narrative

Market Regime
  • The broader NSE market exhibits a bearish tone with a mixed short-term technical landscape across sectors.
Relative Strength Leadership
  • The sectoral rotation highlights the Nifty Realty, Nifty Smallcap 100, and Nifty Pharma as relative strength leaders over the past quarter, despite recent short-term retracements.
Laggards & Watch Areas
  • Key large-cap indices like Nifty 50, Nifty Next 50, and Nifty IT are in a bearish trend, marked by significant declines over the last month, with the Nifty 50 showcasing the weakest relative strength among peers.
Confirmation & Key Levels
  • The RSI values are oversold, particularly Nifty FMCG and Nifty 50, indicating potential caution on further downward momentum.
  • MACD signals corroborate this bearish sentiment broadly, although a bullish divergence in Nifty Energy’s MACD suggests potential underlying strength within a generally weak trend.
  • Notably, Nifty Realty, although outperforming on a three-month basis, has endured significant short-term pressure.
  • Small-cap and mid-cap segments show mixed SMA alignment, with Nifty Smallcap 100 holding a neutral trend compared to the bearish slant in Nifty Midcap 100.
  • Nifty sectors like Pharma, Energy, and Smallcap indicate neutral to weak trends, underlining modest defensive postures relative to bearish major indices.
  • Overall, support levels are being tested across the board, and with no immediate signs of consolidation patterns, further volatility can be anticipated.
  • Resistance points are substantially higher than current levels, indicating potential rebounds might face significant upside challenges.
VWAP / Data Limits
  • Across sectors, VCP contractions are notably absent, suggesting limited upcoming breakout formations, and VWAP data is largely unavailable, limiting insights on volume-weighted support and resistance dynamics.
Data note: VWAP is marked unavailable where index volume is absent or zero.

Global / US Context

Local cache-driven global backdrop for the NSE report. No external report is opened from this tab.

Narrative

The cached Global / US snapshot from 2026-05-29 showed RISK-ON conditions, with SOXX - SOXX 1M 26.5% | RS/SPY 51.1 setting the tone. Across the current cache we have 66 tracked symbols, 5 Stage 2 leaders, and 5 VCP / contraction watches. At the time of this cache, the read was: The global backdrop is mixed, so the best Indian trades will still come from local relative strength and price confirmation. The cache is 108 days old, so this section is stale directional context, not a current global market read. The clearest India read-through from this cache is: IT & Technology: positive; Electronics / EMS: positive; Energy - Oil & Gas: positive; Aviation / Paints / Tyres: negative. That does not automatically translate into a trade, but it does help rank sectors that may benefit if global leadership keeps holding.

Methodology
How each score and screen is calculated.
1 · Scoring Frameworks
R
Sector Rotation Score

Ranks sectors by short-term momentum and relative strength versus the Nifty 500 benchmark. Positive values mean the sector is outperforming the broad market. The five sub-components capture momentum across multiple timeframes, with the heaviest weight on 1-month RS.

0.35 × RS_1M + 0.25 × RET_1M
+ 0.20 × RS_5D + 0.10 × RS_3M + 0.10 × RS_6M
RS_xM = sector return minus Nifty 500 return over the same period
S
Investment Score

Per-stock composite score (0–100+) that blends price momentum, relative strength, fundamentals, and qualitative bonuses. Use it to rank candidates within a sector, not across sectors. Stage 2 stocks receive +4; Stage 3 = −5; Stage 4 = −8.

0.38 × Tech + 0.27 × RS_rank + 0.25 × Fund
+ Pattern bonus (+3) + Supertrend bonus (+2)
+ Signal bonus (F&O/Insider) + Stage bonus (±4/−5/−8)
T
Technical Score

Aggregates price-based momentum signals: RSI (14), distance from 52W high, SMA50/SMA200 position, short-term rate-of-change, and volume trend. Scored 0–100; values above 60 indicate strong uptrend conditions.

F
Fundamental Score

Enhanced composite score sourced from the Screener.in pipeline, covering earnings quality, revenue growth, balance sheet strength, and institutional interest. Refreshed weekly.

≥65: Strong · 50–65: Moderate · <50: Speculative
P
Peak Resilience Score

Identifies stocks trading within 20% of their 52-week high — the hallmark of institutional accumulation. Scores favour stocks near their peak with strong technicals, fast drawdown recovery, and solid fundamentals.

0.25 × Tech + 0.20 × RS + 0.20 × RecoverySpeed
+ 0.20 × HighProximity + 0.15 × Fund
2 · Trend & Pattern Indicators
ST
Supertrend

ATR-based dynamic support/resistance line. When price closes above the band the signal turns Bullish; below it turns Bearish. A flip from Bear→Bull adds +2 to the Investment Score. Works best on daily timeframe with a 1–2 week holding horizon.

Period: 10 · Multiplier: 3.0 · Source: NSE OHLC cache
Score bonus: +2 (Bull), −1 (Bear)
B
Consolidation Breakout

Flags stocks that have just broken above a tight multi-week base. Requires the latest close to exceed the prior 20-session high, the base to be narrow (≤12% range), and volume to spike to at least 1.4× the 20-day average — confirming institutional demand.

Lookback: 20 sessions · Base width ≤ 12%
Volume threshold: 1.4× 20D avg · Score bonus: +3
A1
Stage Analysis (O'Neil / Weinstein)

Classifies every stock into one of four price-cycle stages using the SMA 50/200 structure and their slopes. Stage 2 is the preferred research filter for long-only setups (not a buy recommendation). Stage 3 (distribution) and Stage 4 (decline) are excluded from the research shortlist.

  • Stage 2 — Markup ✅: Price > SMA50 > SMA200, both slopes rising, within 20% of 52W high. Score +4.
  • Stage 1 — Base: Price near 200 DMA, MAs flat. Accumulation phase. Score 0.
  • Stage 3 — Distribution ⚠: Near highs but SMA50 flattening, ATR expanding. Score −5.
  • Stage 4 — Decline ❌: Price < SMA50 < SMA200, both MAs falling. Score −8.

Reading the Signals Button

Each stock row has a compact Signals button showing three coloured dots. Click to expand a popup with the full detail for each signal type. Click anywhere else to close.

Green — Bullish signal (F&O bull, insider buy, bullish event)
Red — Bearish signal (F&O bear, insider sell/pledge)
Grey — Neutral / mixed signal
Blue — Upcoming corporate event
Light — No data for this signal type
F&O
F&O Signals

Derived from NSE Futures & Options data. The Put/Call Ratio (PCR) and Open Interest (OI) trend identify smart-money positioning. An expanding OI with rising price confirms a strong trend; falling OI on a rally is a warning.

  • BULL: PCR > 1.2 or OI trending up with price rise
  • MILD_BULL / MILD_BEAR: Mixed OI signals
  • BEAR: PCR < 0.7 or OI building on price decline
Score bonus: +2 (BULL), +1 (MILD_BULL), −1 (MILD_BEAR), −3 (BEAR)
IN
Insider Alerts

Monitors SEBI bulk/block deal disclosures and promoter shareholding changes. Promoter buying at market price is one of the strongest fundamental signals; promoter pledging or large block selling flags elevated risk.

EV
Corporate Events

Surfaces the next material event (earnings, dividend, board meeting, AGM, split, bonus) from the NSE corporate actions calendar. Urgency is colour-coded by days remaining.

  • 🔴 ≤ 3 days: Imminent — animated pulse badge
  • 🟡 4–7 days: This week — amber badge
  • 🔵 8–30 days: Upcoming — blue badge
  • ⚪ > 30 days: Far out — grey badge

4 · Sectoral Seasonality — How to Read the Heat Calendar
B3
Sectoral Heat Calendar (7-Year Monthly Returns)

The heat calendar shows the average return for each NSE sector index in every calendar month, computed over the last 7 years of NSE index data. It answers: "Historically, has this sector tended to go up or down in this month?"

Reading the Colours
> +5%
+2% → +5%
+1% → +2%
0% → +1%
−1% → 0%
−1% → −2%
−2% → −5%
−5% → −10%
< −10%

Arrows inside each cell: ↑ avg > +1% · → flat (−0.5% to +1%) · ↓ avg < −0.5%.
The current month row is highlighted in blue with a ◀ marker.

Signals Derived

Each sector is tagged TAILWIND, HEADWIND, or NEUTRAL for the current month based on its historical average return:

  • TAILWIND: avg monthly return > +2% over ≥5 years of data
  • HEADWIND: avg monthly return < −1%
  • NEUTRAL: between −1% and +2%, or fewer than 5 observations

These signals appear as coloured tags on sector headers in the Sector Rotation tab and as a summary in the Overview.

⚠ Interpretation Guidance

Seasonal patterns are probabilistic, not deterministic. A TAILWIND month improves the base rate; it does not guarantee a positive return. Always cross-reference with the Rotation Score and the current market regime (displayed in the top banner). A HEADWIND season in a strong uptrend sector is less of a deterrent than in a weakening one. Use seasonality as a tie-breaker, not the primary filter.

DD
Drawdown from 52W High

The DD% column shows how far the index is currently trading below its 52-week high. This is the most direct measure of whether an index has corrected or is still near peak levels.

  • 0% to −5%: Near all-time / 52W high — strong trend
  • −5% to −15%: Healthy pullback — possible buy zone
  • −15% to −30%: Correction — wait for base or reversal signal
  • > −30%: Deep decline — avoid unless very strong catalyst
